Veterans Memorial Park
Oconomowoc

Honoring our veterans – yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Take a Tour of the Park

As you enter the park thru the Fort Style masonry, you’ll find the Freedom Walk which leads to the Cleary Brothers Memorial Water Fountain. The wall leads around the fountain to a small memorial garden, to the main flag pole, flying the American flag. The fountain area is shaped in a traditional five pointed star which represents the five branches of our military and flies the flags of the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and the Air Force. Near each point of the star stands a pentagon shaped pedestal which serves as a column designating the strength of each armed service. In front of each column, a” flying” steel arch rises above 28 feet high and connects to a compression ring which demonstrates the unity of our armed services and the unity of the country. At the top of the ring is an American Bald Eagle standing guard forever over the people who served.

Moving to the right from the main flag pole, we enter the curved Honor Walk which exhibits the names of those who served and gratitude from those who appreciate their service. You’ll find over 4,000 names engraved on 16 panels along the walk to the water. The Honor Wall parapet has a heavy, wrought iron chain which again indicates strength of those who served. Along the Honor Walk, you’ll find a number of paver bricks that are emblazoned with dedications from veterans and about the veterans.

As the Honor Walk connects back to the Freedom Walk, you will cross the walk to the Prayer/Remembrance area which offers a quiet area for respect and reflection for the brave people who are being honored here whether they be living, deceased or lost. To the South of the star standing in prominence is the MIA-POW Memorial dedicated to those who endured all the ravages of war that associates itself with these brave people.
